Static. Static was the only noise that would come from the relatively new car radio. The only station it would pick up was a Christian thing, which weakly consisted of a man reading from the bible in a shaky voice, crying in between verses & repeating 'this is the end, this is the end.' Multiple times. They decided against having that on. Silence seemed more appropriate at this point.

No clue where to go, shaken and confused as hell; the trio began to grow even more exhausted by the second. The terrifying events of the day catching up to them quicker then they thought it would, draining them physically and emotionally. Caleb, with no clue where else to turn: pulled the car to a stop outside of an abandoned looking house. It felt wrong, as if they were trespassing as they walked in, uneasy and terrified.

Alexis turned. Tossed and turned repeatedly throughout the night as she lie, uncomfortable on the small mattress that Caleb had helped her pull down stairs. Unsurprisingly, the house was completely abandoned. But it didn't feel right sleeping in the beds of people they'd never met. Alex and Gianna shared a double mattress from the master bedroom whilst Caleb slept alone on a blow up mattress.

"Caleb, are you awake?" whispered Alex, staring at the ceiling in the dark as she spoke. There was a long silence before he replied.
Groggy but awake, he spoke, "Yeah." Alex continued to stare at the ceiling.
"Can't sleep either?" She questioned. She heard him move roughly on his makeshift bed. She turned to face him, glistening eyes meeting his in the darkness.
"Honestly, how is she out?" He questioned. Alex shook her head, quietly laughing.
"You know Gianna. Doesn't matter when or where, or what the circumstances are; she always manages to sleep."

Alexis saw the white glint of her friends teeth as he smiled. It quickly dropped. He sighed, dropping back onto the bed. Head on the pillow with shaggy, long hair sprawled out across it; hands folded on his ribs.
"It's one am." He spoke quietly, calmly. Yet his voice was rimmed with anger.
Confused, Alex spoke: "So?" He sighed again, shaking his head.
"It's been twenty four hours. I've watched you kill a ma-I've watched you kill something, seen you fall apart and then build yourself back up again: we've holed up in your house and so much more. All in a span of twenty-four hours."
"What the fuck is happening?" Alexis whispered, her voice catching at the end. She felt the tears rolling down her face before she even realised she was crying.
"Hey, come here." Caleb whispered, patting the side of his mattress in the dark.

Alex crept out of her bed uncertainly, careful to not wake her friend. Slowly, she slid into Caleb's bed, wiping her face on the end of her sleeve as he pulled a thick blanket over the both of them and draped his arm across her torso. There has been a kind of tension between the two since they met, but neither would admit to it although they both felt it.
"We'll be okay." He whispered as she scooted closer to him, enjoying the sudden warmth. Alex nodded, sniffing. "This will all be over soon."
