The car was silent (other then the heavy breathing from the teens) as the three made their way deeper into London, yet the buzzing adrenaline seemed so loud it could be heard. Somehow, they'd did it. The plan was messy, disorganised, and as they'd later come to see; very dangerous... But it had worked.
"Caleb's first. Gia, need to get anything from your place?" Alex asked, breaking the unbearable yet comforting silence. Gianna shook her head, staring out the window. Gianna didn't have to feel the worry and fright Alexis and Caleb did. Four years ago, her family was involved in a car crash. A bad one. Out of her parents and her twin brother, Gianna was the only one to survive. Alexis, being somewhat friends with her at the time, had forced her mother into letting her stay until social services figured out where she could go. It worked, and Gia was more or less adopted by the family until she was seventeen and Alex was shipped off-however briefly-to Brighton.
But it was still fresh in her mind for Gianna. And she'd be lying if she said it hurt whenever someone spoke about family.
"W-wait! I need to get... We should pack some stuff at mine, you know? Like water and food. I mean, we all saw what happened back there, and, I don't know about you guys but I have no idea why but there were thousands of violent dead people outside-"
Caleb, in a dark tone, piped up, "Gia, we'll get stuff from yours but please stop talking."
He gripped the leather covered wheel hard, his knuckles becoming white as he did so. Everyone was stressed out, and even more so when they came to a stop, stuck behind hundreds-maybe thousands-of other cars on the highway. It seemed like everyone and their grandmother had the same idea; get the hell away from London. "Oh, God," he whined, ducking his head. Alex slumped down lower in the seat next to him, feeling hopeless.
"What the fuck is going on?!" The silhouette of a man yelled in the distance, opening his car door and stepping out. The noise was muffled through the glass and metal of the car but it was clear what he was asking. What everyone was thinking. Through the windshield, Alex could see a hand, possibly a woman's, tugging on his shirt from the car. He brushed her away rather violently and stepped away from the blue Toyota; throwing his hands up in the air as he did. Screams filled the road as three clearly infected people-more or less-ran straight towards him from opposite directions, throwing him to the ground. No one wanted to watch as they literally tore him apart. It was sick. Minuets later-although Alex could've sworn it felt like hours-
The man got back up.
It was not the first time they'd see this happen, but it was the first time they'd witnessed it with their own eyes. And still no one had an explanation as to why it was happening in the first place.
"Oh, God!" Gia yelled, covering her mouth with her hand.
"What the fuck?!" Alex cried, covering her eyes as the man... Thing advanced towards their car, clearly interested in the noise they were creating.
in a stunned, hushed voice, Caleb uttered the words: "They're like zombies."
The girls stared in horror and jumped as the bloody, impossible man threw himself against the passenger side window where Alex was sitting.
"Drive, Caleb!" Alex screamed, terror in her eyes. Caleb, unresponsive, watched as the man managed to crack the window. Gia shook his shoulder from the back seat.
"Go back the way we came, man!" She yelled. He turned to her.
"I can't fucking go! There's people behind me!" He yelled, stress ringing out clearly in his voice. The car was filled with Alex's terrified cries as the reanimated man cracked the window further. Soon, he would break the window and Alex would be the first to go. Tears ran down her pale white cheeks as she tried to unbuckle her seat belt and get as far away from the window as she could. It was beyond the group how somebody who looked so weak, could be strong enough to break a car window.
"Crap!" He cursed under his breath, made a sketchy U-Turn and zig-zagged out of oncoming cars. Despite all the angry car horns screeching at the trio, they were still more then relieved to be off that road. Alex breathed out a strangled sob and cupped her face into her hands. It seems that was not the way to get out of London.
"Well," Caleb shouted over the uproar of the busier-then-ever city. It seemed that the fear had finally kicked in, and all that could be seen was looting, people running from god knows what; and them. The infected...
The zombies.
He finished, "What do we do now?"
