Chapter 6
When we reached office it was kind of late. We were stuck in the traffic then our car was punctured. It was a hell of situation. Currently boss was glaring at us with his sharp eyes. His eyebrows were wrinkled and it felt like he was about to eat us alive.
"What's all these? Why are you late today? You two took leave yesterday and came late today. Do you want me to fire you two?"
"Boss, that.... We were stuck in the traffic then our—" Monica though tried to explain he raised his hand stopping her in the midway.
"I don't want to hear any kind of explanation. I won't tolerate such action again. Do you hear me?"
"Yes" we said together.
"But that doesn't mean you two are not going to be punished" he smirked at us. Monica and I looked at eachother. God, what is he planning in that old head of his? I wondered in my mind.
"Boss—" Monica stammered.
"You two have to collect some evidence for me. Till now no one agreed to go there. But this time you two can't refuse it" he said.
"Boss where we have to go?" I asked him.
"Bengaluru"
"Bengaluru? But what's in there?" Monica asked.
"In Bengaluru you have to investigate about the great mansion Terra Vera"
"What?" Monica almost jumped, "boss you can't be that harsh on us. You want us to go to Terra Vera Mansion as punishment?"
Boss clicked his finger on the glass table, "our magazine has been standing in 5th position from the past few years. If it could claim the position between 1-3rd then we would have to close the company down. To raise our topic we need something that will thrill the readers. And Terra Vera is the golden edition don't you think so? Specially when at night time. No one dared to go there at night to capture few things. If we can do this then our magazine will hit the big spot overnight" he explained.
"Boss you are forcing us to do this" Monica gritted her teeth. "this is definitely not fair to our side. We were late because of that damn traffic and punctured tire"
"Don't curse infront of me young lady. Your efforts won't go in vain. If you two can complete, you will get your promotion as seniors so after that you don't have to run around collecting news by yourselves"
His words had us look at eachother. He is definitely blackmailing us. Oh my god, this old man really knows how to play his cards.
"Boss what will do with promotion if we were hunted during this process? Of course we won't be coming as spirit to claim the rewards" Monica groaned.
Boss laughed, "you know how to joke" he pushed two envelope towards us. "This is your promotion latters. It will be only official once you complete the task"
We couldn't believe his words as we grabbed the latter and checked it. And it was definitely the one he was talking about.
"Boss are you really sure about it?" I frowned.
His expression turned serious, "you know I don't like to joke Nandini"
This is the lifetime opportunity. This kind offer is alluring and no one would want to refuse but at the cost of own life? This is where everything stops and forced our mind to think over it again and again.
"Okay, you two don't have to force yourself if you don't want. You can fist check it out then if you think it's reliable then try working and if it's against your safety then you can give up" boss suddenly said seeing our troubled expression.
"But how can we go alone? We want few more people with us" Monica said.
Boss nodded, "fine, I will arrange it. Leave for the destination tomorrow. Your tickets and staying cost will be handled by the company. The list of people who is going with you will be sent by msg"
After we walked out of the cabin we were still thrilling. But we are nervous too. Who doesn't know Terra Vera Mansion? That scared place is hunted by the evil creature. And going there at night will be dangerous as hell. But the fact boss gave us a choice we can just try a bit. Afterall no one wanted to risk their life to collect few evidence of spirits.
Later in the evening Monica stayed in my house. We are having coffee when boss sent her a message.
"Wait, Kaushal is also going on this trip?" Monica frowned. "I don't understand why the hell he was appointed with us?"
Kaushal was the most notorious in the office and had many woman wrapped around his fingers. He is a Playboy with sex addict personality. Him going with us was a biggest tragedy.
"Hell, this is definitely not good" she shook her head.
"I am actually still thinking if we should take this trip or not. I definitely want the promotion but Terra Vera is a scared place, I really don't want to encourage any evil spirit to hunt us down without any reason" I shook my head.
Monica looked at me, "well, it's actually a spirit of a girl. I still don't understand why would someone kill a girl without any reason? I mean Dolce was just a simple Piano teacher but she was killed so brutally, how could her spirit will be happy with her sudden death. I really pity her"
"Whether we pity her or not she wouldn't understand this feelings. If there's a chance she will kill us and then others will pity us when we roam around the mansion as ghost"
"Do you really have to kill my mood of care? It sends chill in my body. Don't weaken my courage even before the trip starts" she glared at me.
"So we are going there?"
"Girly, we only get one chance to live and I think we should take this risk" she grinned.
I rolled my eyes, "if this risk will take our life then we will see others are enjoying our promotion with a grin"
"Come on, we will definitely go through this situation. That night we talked and discussed how to plan the whole trip and if it was suitable then how to investigate the matter. To my surprise I didn't see him. That night we chat for a late night then ate dinner before sleeping. I thought he would come but he didn't. Next morning, we got ready and went to airport. Other members were already there waiting for us. They had the tickets and other necessary things for the trip.
When we sat in the plane I felt nervous. I don't know why but I felt like this is my last journey and I won't be back to live my life normally. This sudden thought had me look at Monica was reading magazine. She has been so good to me, all the time. She supported me, helped me like a family. But today I felt like this is the last journey I am taking with her. Feeling weird with my own thought I tried to focus on the song I was listening.
I closed my eyes, I hope everything turns good. I really don't want to lose my good friend. After leaving home, she was the first person I met in the unknown city. The bond we shared was more than friends, it was more like sisterly feeling.
The rest of journey was smooth. After line hour we finally landed on the Bengaluru airport. The trip from Chennai to Bengaluru wasn't long. But as I stepped on the soil of Bengaluru I felt a guest of wind slapped my body.
"Come the car is waiting for us" Monica's voice made me out of my trance. I looked at her. She was already walking forward. Heaving a sigh I followed her behind.
