Chapter 8
-------------

Four Days later

"So how is your wolf mate treating you?" Genove asked.

"I am still pissed at you" she said her eyes narrowing.

"I am sorry dove I could not go against the fey court" he said sorrowfully.

"And yet you are here" she hissed.

"There is a difference in bending a rule and breaking it" he informed her.

Genove had appeared out of thin air while she was taking a solitary walk trying to clear her head. The four days had messed up her head completely.

She would be totally and completely lying if she said she didn't feel for the wolf. Love, certainly not? But affection, attraction and some lust...definitely yes! If she would have been a lesser female she would have gone down on her knees and begged him to marry her.

He had been good, he had been extremely good and had not left a single stone unturned to woo her Romantic breakfasts, afternoon movies, evening walks and dinner under the stars had been his MO. On top of that yesterday, he had taken her to some of the most beautiful natural spots in his pack lands and he gifted her land, land!

Did he know what land meant to elf? Land was everything! They were the true children of the earth! He had taken her to the most beautiful spot of earth she had ever seen, a lake un spoilt by civilization deep in his territory and promptly told her it was hers. It was enough to bring her to her knees.

She had laid down on the ground in the grass and closed her eyes and felt her connection to the earth hum with energy. She felt at peace, she felt her soul connect with the planet, this would be her favorite spot.

And the gentle kiss he had given her on the forehead yesterday before retiring to bed, it has been so gentle it sent shivers down her spine.

Yes, she had to admit, the wolf was good. But he was undoubtedly extremely motivated after all she was his mate...or other half as they claimed. She had spent some time with his pack, she understood their hierarchy. The werewolves were simple folks, everyone had a part to play in their packs but mostly what they liked were their homes and their families and by god they had some huge families. The mate bond or whatever ensured they fucked like rabbits and dropped out young ones every season. She had never seen so many kids in one single place.

But was it enough? No, it was not...as much as her heart said otherwise, her belief still stuck true, they were from different worlds. She could not go through it...again.

"He is treating me fine" she sighed walking pensively, Genove walking next to her.

"So what is your decision?" he asked her softly.

"I can't do this again Genove" she whispered softly.

"I see" he said, he did see "Does he know?"

"What?" she asked.

"That your powers are back?" Genove clarified.

Did the wolf know? No he did not.

The better question was her powers had returned early on the fourth day morning. She had been elated for a while but then her mood grew somber and she knew she could leave anytime she wanted but she did not, she had stayed back, why had she? She had wanted to give him the four days she promised. But a whisper in her mind told the truth...she did not want to leave. So she made a pact with herself, she would give him the four days she promised and then she would leave.

"No" she simply responded to his earlier question. Michael did not know.

They walked in silence in a while.

"Dove" Genove started in a gentle tone "Clearly he had affected you, don't be hard on yourself, there is nothing wrong in falling in love...again."

"It's not about falling in love Genove" she sighed "it's what comes after it" she stated.

"What do you mean?" he asked.

"Death. He will die one day and I will be left lonely...I cannot go through that again..." she agonized.

"oh, dove!" He said pulling her close. He knew what she meant.

She had fallen deeply in love with a human lord in the medieval ages, madly in love and against the advice of the fey lords ended up marrying him. Those thirty years of her life had been the best, she had even given him a child. Her family, her perfect family. But then her husband's enemies had struck, people noticed she had not aged a day in the thirty years and her son could do things no human could, he had superhuman strength and abilities. Their enemies had ambushed her husband and killed him, they weakened her son with poisonous arrows which would have ideally killed a human and then burnt him at the stake as a warlock. Since he was a human fey hybrid he was not immortal and had died. She had managed to flee before they came for her.

She had taken vengeance on every single one of them, each one died a horrible and painful death, her wrath knew no limits, she left a trail of blood and anarchy. She had gotten so out of control with grief that the fey court had to intervene and lock her up.

It had taken her time to come out of her grief, but her heart never recovered....until now, the wolf had made her feel things she had never felt in a long...long time, things she was afraid to feel and she could not cross the fey court once again and she very well knew what their reaction would be.

"He is not human you know" Genove gently pointed out.

"And that makes a difference?" She asked.

"He would live for a couple of millennia dove not just decades"

"But he would leave eventually wouldn't he? And I would be alone again, wouldn't I?"

"At least you will have some happiness...we are doomed for eternal loneliness dove, why not have some happiness while you can?" he advised.

"That temporary happiness will make the loneliness even the more unbearable when the time comes, Genove...I cannot survive it once more... it is too much." She confessed.

"What are you going to do, then?" he asked her.

"I am going to go back and let him know, he deserves that much and then I want you to come and take me home."

"Are you sure?" he asked.

She stood straight as if reinforcing her resolved and said with convection "I am"

They ate dinner in relative silence, there was tension in the air both of them could feel it, he had taken her back to the lake...her lake as he called it. He had packed a picnic basket with some dinner and were sitting on some blankets, but the easy conversation pattern they fell in to for the last few days was missing.

"What's wrong?" he softly asked, worry forming in the pit of his stomach.

She was staring in to the serene water of the lake, the moon reflection gently on the still waters.

She sighed and looked at him.

"Your four days are up" she told him softly, no point in beating around the bush.

"I see" he said taking in a deep breath, she could see his every single muscle coiling in tension.

"And what have you decided?" he asked her, his voice steady but his heart hammering.

She looked in to his eyes, her eyes reflecting an unknown emotion "You are a good man, Michael" she said softly "Any woman would be lucky to have you" she added.

"But just not you...is it?" he added, stoic.

She sighed softly "No" she said "We live in different worlds, Michael. Worlds which do not intersect, I don't see how we can have a future."

He looked in to her eyes, as if looking in to her very soul.

"Is this the best you can come up with? "he asked her.

She sighed and got up and he got up as well.

"It is the only thing that matters" she retorted.

"Just tell me one thing...in the last four days have you felt anything for me?" He asked her, his voice laced with emotion.

She looked in to his eyes and answered "Nothing that will sway my decision" Which was not the complete truth.

She looked at her hand where the magic shackle had kept her company and with the slightest touch broke it. Now with her powers back she was immune to magic and a stupid teetering spell could no longer hold her.

She pulled at his hand and put the broken pieces in his hand.

"Goodbye Michael" She told him and leaned forward and gave him a gentle and chaste kiss on his cheek and started to walk past him.

He reached out and held her wrist to prevent her from moving.

"I will never stop looking for you, you know right?" he said in promised.

"Please don't waste your time on me Michael, try to move on and be happy" she suggested.

"Happy?" he laughed bitterly "You ask me to be happy and yet any chance of it you are taking away from me"

"I am sorry" she said and gently tugged her hand hoping he would release it.

He did not.

"I vow to you today, the full moon as my witness. I will never stop looking for you...either I will find you or death will find me first." He vowed and she knew he was serious, his emotions were running high but she hoped he would eventually give up as there was no way he could enter the fey plain.

She closed her eyes and simply tugged her hand free and walked away from him without looking back. Once she reached the house that had been hers for four days Genove was waiting for her.

Before he could open his mouth a howl broke the silence, the sorrow in that voice was crippling for anyone to hear. Both of them looked towards the direction.

"Are you sure dove?" Genove gently asked.

"Yes" she whispered, her voice chocking.

"They why do you cry?" he sked her.

She had not realized the tears streaking out of her eyes, she quickly wiped them away, denying to acknowledge their existence and instead looked at him.

"Take me home" She instructed him.

"As you wish" he stated and held her hand and a portal opened in front of them, Genove stepped in and she followed behind him.

The portal closed behind her. Leaving behind  a piece of her heart with that wolf.
