Mismatch

Chapter 7

gismosin

Folks, I am back. Its been a while since I updated the book and thanks to all those folks who have been patient with me. I plan to update weekly twice and this book should be done in ten chapters.

--------------------------

"So wolf, what's cooking?" Glaneth asked coming down from freshening herself.

"Pasta" He said stirring the contents in the bowl. He paused and looked at her "Do elf eat?" He asked curiously.

"I have a mouth now, don't I?" she responded tersely "And I am hungry" She declared.

"You can help by cutting the tomatoes" He added.

She shook her head at him in disbelief "Really wolf? Really? Do I look like someone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen?" she asked him and added "Next thing you know you will want be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen" she mumbled.

He gave her a look which said he was considering just that. She narrowed her eyes at him and hissed a warning at him. If he planned to sneak his ding dong anywhere near her he had one more thing coming to him.

She jumped on to the counter and started swinging her legs.

"You do know you can't keep me her forever right?" she declared to him.

He just grunted

"There is no point wolf. You can't tie me down with your wolfy claim and I am going to walk away the moment I get my powers back. I suggest we call this quits and go our separate way, less heartburn that way you know" She advised sagely.

"So you are so sure that that you will walk away at the end?" He asked her pausing his cooking

"Yes" she said without skipping a heartbeat.

"Then why don't you stay? Consider it a vacation, as you said...once you have your powers back, I can't stop you anyways...so till then stay here" He proposed.

"Why?" she asked.

"For my sanity, so I know that at least I tried everything in my power to convince you to stay with me" He said with honesty.

"And if I aren't convinced then what...will you give up" She asked curious

"Never" She was taken aback by the absolute certainty in his voice. "You are my mate, I will never, ever give up" He vowed.

He chiseled away the ice surrounding her heart a little.

She sighed in defeat.

"I can be good to you elf, you are my mate I can make you happy. Why don't you give us a chance?" he declared passionately.

"Because you and I don't belong to the same world wolf" she stated.

"Not a good enough reason" he stated.

"May be for you but what makes you think I want to risk everything for someone I barely know" She asked.

"And you will never know until you risk it" He countered.

"Be that as it may...it's not an incentive enough" She told him.

"How about we reach a truce?" he asked.

"I am listening" she said.

"Till the time you have your powers back spend time with me, get to know me...give me a chance to woo my mate and in the end if I can't convince you...well you can walk away and not that I can stop you" He proposed.

"What does this wooing entail?" she asked suspiciously.

"You agree to spend time with me and not avoid me...that's all I ask" He promised.

She contemplated biting her lip...she was trapped here anyways, maybe spending some time with this wolf would not be such a bad idea after all and as he pointed out she could walk away once her powers were back and he could do nothing about it...may be it would give him a sense of closure that he tried what he could to 'woo' his so called mate and let go.

"All right" she relented and added "But I have conditions, I can choose to not answer any questions you may have or the moment I feel uncomfortable you back off" She stated.

He looked in to her eyes for a moment and put his hand out to her to shake on it "deal" he said.

"Just to know...how many days do I have?" he asked, he was essentially asking in how many days she would get her powers back.

"Four days wolf. You have four days" she told him truthfully.

He nodded his head in acknowledgement and went back to cooking "can you at least set the table?" he asked her.

***

"While I have tasted better, this is not bad wolf" She stated poking at the pasta. They had sat down to have the lunch Michael prepared.

"I will take that as a compliment" He said.

"So Glaneth, how old are you?" He asked her.

"Asking a lady her age..tsk..tsk...I can see how the four days would go..." she mocked him.

"I just wanted to know how long an elf really lives" he asked her.

"We are true immortals wolf...the oldest elf is as old as the planet" she sagely told him and added "We elf do not have a natural death."

"That means elf can be killed?" he asked.

"All beings have weaknesses don't we?" she vaguely responded.

"I am just curious how old you are" he insisted.

"Let's just say I can qualify to be your grandmother" she told him.

"Are you a lone elf? Separated from your kind?" he asked her.

"Why do you ask?" She questioned back.

"I have you trapped here...and no one came to rescue you...even that guy who came down to the station impersonating a lawyer who helped you escape has not come back..." he trailed off...

She sighed "Let's just say my folks are aware of where I am and that lawyer is my friend Genove he has already visited me." She stated.

"And yet you are here..."he prodded.

"Let's just say I am having a disagreement with my folks...which by the way I have a bone to settle once I am back so they let me stay here."

"So kind of like a punishment?" he pondered.

"You can say" she did not want to go in to detail the politics of the fey court.

"Besides as you say I am your mate...you cannot harm me" She added.

"So, do you feel safe with me?" he asked softly looking in to her eyes.

Damn her heart! The way he was looking at her... made her heart skip a beat, if she was not careful she would end up feeling things for this wolf she had no intension of feeling.

"I do" she confessed, damn! Why did she do that? Her foolish...foolish romantic heart.

He gave her a full blown smile...that highlighted his features to her. His obsidian eyes that peered in to her soul. He was someone to whom she would naturally be attracted to. Maybe help her scratch an itch or two... but she would not do anything of that sort with him...the mate business was complicated.

Shit! She needed to keep her act together, she diverted her eyes from him.

"So wolf, how old are you?" She asked trying to get in to a casual conversation.

"Michael" he stated.

"What?" she scrunched her face in confusion.

"My name...is Michael, I would prefer you call me with my name."

"Ok...Michael" Damn that name sure did feel right rolling off her tongue.

"I am three hundred and eighty years old" he added.

Fuck, he was a young wolf...three eighty was like just out of his teens in human terms. An average werewolf roughly lived to be two thousand years old but werewolves were violent beasts and most of them met their end long before their expiry date.

"Wow...you really are a young wolf...isn't your mama looking for you?" she mocked.

"Hardy..har..har" he deadpanned

"We wolves find mates young" He added.

"I find that concept strange...the whole mates thing...you having no choice of who you want to spend the rest of your life with" she added.

"When fate finds you the perfect one...what is there to choose?" he countered.

"How can you be so sure that I am perfect for you....I can be a bitch and make your life miserable" she smirked.

"You can...but if you do mate with me you will not" He stated confidently.

"Why so?" she asked.

"Because as your mate I will now what makes you happy...I will work every moment to cherish you, you are a gift from the fates and I will treat you as such...a gift...I will never give you a reason for you to be mad at me Glaneth, I will ensure I provide you the best life to my ability." He vowed.

Damn him!

"Anyways I am done" she said pushing the plate away from her.

"Good" he said and added "You have an hour for yourself after that meet me back here"

"What?"

"Remember you told me you will spend as my time as possible with me, so it begins"

"Very well" she said resigned "What are we doing?"

"Visiting my pack"

She raised her eyebrows in surprise.

"You seem to have a poor impression of us werewolves, I want to to show you that we are not the animals you think we are." He declared.

He got up and collected the plates and put them in the sink "One hour, mate!" he declared and walked away before she could open her mouth.
