"Caleb, now would've been a great time to bring that stash of alcohol that 'defiantly is your parents.'" Gianna joked, trying to lighten the mood with an inside joke as Caleb stepped through the door. He was slightly older then the girls, being twenty, almost twenty-one. Apparently, what'd just happened in Alex's home...
was happening all over London.
Caleb and Gianna had tried to speak to Alex, but it was all too clear she was in no type of state for talking. After the whole incident happened, she'd curled up onto the floor and just stayed there. At some point, Caleb turned on the news to reveal a very stressed looking news-reporter. A woman, this time. In the background, you could clearly see the body of the previous reporter. Curled up, covered in blood.
Gone.
Dead.
"This is it. Do not leave your homes. The Zara Virus has been reported to kill each infected being and re-animating them to a sleep walker like state. London is heavily affected, as of the rest of Europe. Some parts of the United States are, too. It can't be stopped.-" She stopped speaking for a moment, glancing behind her at the sight of her co-workers body on the ground as he began to rise again. She embraced it, facing the camera again. Her voice was tight as she spoke, and he had to cough several times to clear it. "They spread it by-." The connection went fuzzy, fading in and out from static as the friends stared up at the TV, drinking in every word she said. "The Centre For Disease Control in the United States urges everyone to stay calm and stay in their homes. Help will be coming soon. This is it, people. Diana Truant, signing off for the last time. God bless you all." The devout woman stayed on air after the sign off, seeing as her crew had obviously left her. She barked out a hysterical laugh, which soon turned to blood curdling screams as her co-worker made his way over to her. A shriek passed her lips as he dug his nails into her neck and bit down hard into her shoulder. Blood spit up, falling like a fountain a fraction of a second after. It didn't stop until Caleb turned of the tv.
Aside from Gia, it was the first time any of them had seen someone bitten. Alex had rose halfway through the report, somewhat returning to normality after having learnt that she hadn't just ruthlessly killed a man. No. Whatever she'd 'killed', was not alive before she did. Shaking, she rose to her feet, struggling to contain herself as she noticed the blood matted into her hair. She shivered, obviously coming down from an adrenalin rush.
"Of course we aren't told what spreads it." Caleb whispered, scared, as the rest were, of what the dead woman on the news said. His shaggy hair fell slightly into his eyes as he looked down at the floor, careful to avoid lingering to long on the mushy grey matter strewn across the carpet.
"Yeah, go figure." Alex breaths out. Caleb laughs slightly, shaking his head. Caleb and Alex met when her and Gianna had snuck out of Alex's home, way back when Alex was fifteen. They ran instantly into Caleb, who decided to play the 'bad boy' for the night. Long story short, the three of them got inappropriately drunk for their ages, accidentally broke a play-ground swing, and got home in police cars. Overall, though; it's a great story to tell.
Alex didn't want to think that this could be their last care free moment. Didn't want to think that this was the start of something bad. Something that wouldn't just blow over in a couple of weeks.
She snapped out of her thoughts and stood up straighter, clearing her head completely. She was going to be strong, Alex decided. Before she knew it, her two friends were staring at her: waiting intently for her to speak.
"We need to figure out what's going on."
