Chapter 10
The word "yes" hung in the air, softer than the candlelight but more brilliant than any flame. It was a single syllable that rebuilt Bright's entire universe. For a moment, he could only stare, the meaning washing over him in a wave of pure, unadulterated joy so intense it was almost painful.
Then, he saw the tears.
They traced silent paths down Win's beautiful, flushed cheeks, catching the light. The sight was a bucket of cold water on Bright's euphoria. His heart, which had been soaring, plummeted. Fear, cold and sharp, gripped him. Had he pushed too hard? Had the weight of his confession, his promises, been too much? Had he frightened the person he loved most in the world?
He rushed to Win's side, dropping to his knees beside the chair. His hands came up, cupping Win's face, his thumbs gently wiping away the tears.
"Win... Win, don't cry," he pleaded, his voice rough with panic. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. It's okay. You don't... you don't have to say yes. We can just... we can just forget I said anything. We can stay friends. It's okay, I promise."
The words tore out of him, a lie born of desperation. The thought of going back to being just friends was a special kind of agony, but the sight of Win's tears was worse.
But Win was shaking his head, a watery, choked laugh escaping through his tears. He grabbed Bright's wrists, not to push him away, but to hold him there.
"No, P'Bright, you silly man," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "I'm not scared. I'm not frightened." He looked into Bright's eyes, his own gaze shining with a love so profound it stole Bright's breath. "I'm crying because... because of how much you love me. You'd fight the whole world for me. You'd take me to another country to marry me. No one... no one has ever loved me like that."
He took a shaky breath, squeezing Bright's wrists. "I love you, too. So much. And yes, I want to be your boyfriend. I want it more than anything."
The relief that crashed over Bright was seismic. A sob of laughter burst from his chest. Without a second thought, he surged up, his arms wrapping around Win's waist, and he lifted him clear off the ground, spinning him around in the middle of the candlelit room.
"Thank you!" he yelled, his voice echoing with unrestrained joy. "Thank you! Thank you for being my boyfriend!" He chanted it like a prayer, spinning until the room was a blur of light and emotion, with Win held securely, laughing and crying in his arms.
"P'Bright! Put me down!" Win finally gasped, his head swimming. "I'm feeling nauseous! Really!"
The spell broke. Bright immediately stilled, gently lowering Win back to his feet, his hands firm on Win's waist to steady him. "Sorry, sorry," he breathed, his eyes full of concern. He leaned in and pressed a soft, lingering kiss to Win's forehead, a kiss of pure, adoring tenderness.
Win looked up at him, a new, bold light in his eyes. A small, flirtatious smile played on his lips. "We're boyfriends now, you know," he said, his voice a little husky. "You don't have to just kiss my forehead. You can kiss me... wherever you want."
The words, filled with innocent invitation and newfound confidence, shattered the last of Bright's sanity.
A low growl rumbled in Bright's chest. The careful control he had maintained for months snapped. His hands slid from Win's waist to the small of his back, pulling him flush against his body. He captured Win's lips with his own in a kiss that was nothing like their careful, practiced one on set.
This was raw. This was claiming. It was a deep, hungry, desperate kiss that poured months of hidden longing, possessiveness, and love into Win. It was a kiss that stole breath and reason, and Win melted into it, his arms looping around Bright's neck, kissing him back with equal fervor. His legs trembled, buckling under the onslaught of sensation, and he would have collapsed if Bright hadn't been holding him so tightly.
Bright broke the kiss just enough to breathe, both of them panting, foreheads resting together. Win was boneless, dazed, his lips swollen and eyes glazed with desire.
With a strength born of sheer need, Bright swept Win up into his arms again—not to spin him, but to carry him. In three long strides, he reached the large sofa and laid Win down upon it, following him down, caging him with his body.
He looked down at Win, his eyes dark with love and a promise of things to come. His voice was a low, possessive whisper that vibrated through them both.
"You said I could do anything," he reminded him, tracing Win's kiss-swollen bottom lip with his thumb. "So there's no turning back now, my Win. You're mine."
And in Win's blissful, surrendering smile, Bright saw not an end, but the most beautiful beginning.
