THE CAMP HAD BEEN FILLED WITH GEOFF'S WAILS OF SORROW EVER SINCE BRIDGETTE GOT ELIMINATED.
"morning, campers!" chris's piercing voice rungs deafeningly through the speakers, everyone covering their ears. "your next challenge awaits you at the arts and crafts center"
everyone sighs, making their way to the small hut.
"welcome to the arts-and-crafts center" chris introduces.
"more like the arts-and-crap center" duncan sneers.
"yeaah.. it used to be an outhouse, but now it's where chef parks his road hog"
chris kicks the door open, all of the guys aweing at the shiny motorbike inside.
"which brings us to your challenge.. building your own wheels!"
"hot rods! yes!" owen cheers loudly. "awesome! give me five! woo-hoo! hoo!" he holds his hand out to duncan, who looks at him, unimpressed. you'll find all the parts you need in our bike depot" chris gestures to a pile of smashed up bikes"
"less awesome, but still good, right?"
"once you've collected the basics, trick them out any way you want using props from the arts-and-crafts center. best design wins!" he announces as he pulls away on his red buggy.
"and to prove i'm a nice guy, i'm even throwing in a bike manual"
heather catches the molding book, "ew! it's furry!" she throws it, izzy catching it with a grin. "cool! mold spores!"
"freak" heather grimaces, "we get first dibs"
the group headed to the pile of bikes, scrounging through the scraps.
"oh-oh-oh! i'm gonna make my dream bike" owen gushes.
"oh, my gosh, me, too" lindsay beams. "every year at christmas i asked for a sunset sally bike but never got one" she ponders.
"really?" owen asks sadly. "santa never.. brought you your christmas wish?"
"man, that just ain't right" D.J whines.
the two boys threaten to burst into tears, duncan quickly intervening and quieting his voice.
you spaced yourself from the others, grabbing all the materials you assumed you might need and finding your own corner.
you honestly had no clue how to build a bike, and even if you had the manual, you can barely read manuals, so regardless you're kind of screwed for this challenge.
but you're not worried. you're not in anyone's bad books as of yet, though you don't want to jinx it.
you holed off in your own section, building a bike that looked ready to fall apart at any section and creaked under your weight.
though it didn't look ugly, persay. it was decorated with flower patterns and had streamers on the handlebars fit with a cute pink seat.
"campers, time to judge your bikes! put your pedal to the metal and meet me at the craft center"
you cringe at your rickety bike, wheeling it towards the hut and joining the other campers.
"well, campers, we gave you the parts. let's see what you came up with"
chris went through, judging everyone's bikes.
finally, he reached yours, scanning it over.
"hm. cute, but simply"
you sigh,
i knew this competition was out the window anyway
your face dropped, however, as chris announced you would be racing the bikes.
"like.. sitting on them and pedalling?" you wince.
"exactly!"
"oh great" you murmur, watching as a screw fell from your bike's wheel.
"ha! awesome, because my bike is built for speed" heather boasts. "right, lindsay?"
"totally!"
"yeah, unfortunately, you won't be riding it, heather. you'll be switching bikes"
you let out a relieved sigh, feeling only half-bad for whoever gets stuck with your rubbish.
everyone else, however, looked distraught.
"alrighty, then. see you at the beach"
everyone trudges down to the beach, bikes in a line together.
"okay, here's how it works. everyone picks a name out of the helmet to see whose bike you're riding. if your bike makes it across the finish line, then you get to ride it in the final round for invincibility"
you look at your paper, deadpanning.
great.
you got your own bike.
"now before we start, has anyone seen leshawna or izzy?"
affirmative no.
everyone lines up on their bikes, you wincing as you try to keep your weight off the bike for as long as possible.
"okay, racers. on your marks, get set.. paramedics on standby.. and drag!"
you attempt to take off, your wheel getting momentarily caught in the sand before eventually moving.
you make it five feet before your wheel catches on a rock and the bike literally falls apart beneath you.
you fall to the ground with an 'oomph', deadpanning greatly.
"bummer" chris winces unsympathetically. you roll your eyes.
owen ends up winning after duncan's bike physcially shoots off into the distance.
"yes!" chris cheers, "we have four awesome wipeouts by [name], heather, geoff, and D.J. four invincibility race winners! owen's fun machine, heather's speed machine, lindsay's sunset sally, and duncan's lethal weapon!"
"YAH!" owen cries as he rapidly approaches.
"how do i stop this thing?!"
"slam the hood ornament!" duncan shouts out an order.
"okay" owen says, smacking the skull and screaming as he's flung from the bike.
"awesome finish, owen" chris grins. "it's time to head over to the TDI motorcross.
the group of eliminated contestants sit on the small rocky cliff above the competitors, watching as they ready their bikes.
"wow! sweet wheels" owen compliments.
"i know, right?" lindsay grins. "and P.S, i love yours"
"oh, me, too" owen gushes.
"it's so much fun to ride!"
chris pulls up beside them, "campers! welcome to the.. moto!.. moto!.. cross cross cross challenge challenge! using your own bikes, you'll race the course, avoiding hidden pitfalls. cue the deathtraps! there's dodging the land mines, maneuvering through the oil slick, and, finally, jumping the piranhas. oh, and one more thing - first one to cross wins invincibility. last one to cross gets voted off the island. no bonfire, do not pass go, do not collect a marshmallow"
everyone gasps. your eyes widen,
damn.. so it's a hell of a good thing we're already out..
after, again, getting lindsay to do all her dirty work, heather wins the challenge.
"yay! you won! we did it! we're safe!" lindsay cheers happily.
"that's not exactly true. heather is safe because her bike crossed the line first, but since duncan and owen wiped out and didn't complete the race, they technically didn't cross the line at all, which makes you the last one to cross the line, which means it's 'dock of shame' time, baby"
your jaw drops.
that's totally unfair! one of the boys should be eliminated, not her!
"okay, i'm so confused" lindsay frowns.
"it means i can't save you unless i give you my invincibility. but i can't do that - too risky. you understand"
you frown at heather. you understand more than anyone that it's all apart of the game, but that's a little harsh.
"but i won. i even built your bike" lindsay interjects, grabbing heather's wrist.
heather laughs. "i don't know what she's talking about. you should just leave with your dignity in tact. it will make you seem much more cuter in the instant replays"
"but we were going to the final three together?"
"guess we're not"
"aren't you even sad?" lindsay accuses, "we're BFF's"
"yeah, for the contest. i mean, it's not like we're gonna be best friends for life or anything"
lindsay gasps in horror. "i can't believe you just said that! but we pinkie-swore. you mean, i've been helping you all this time, and you didn't even like me?"
"uh, truth?"
lindsay nods.
"not really, no"
your frown deepens.
everyone looks at heather angrily.
"what? we're not here to make friends. we're here to become celebrities, remember?"
you scoff lightly. you knew that heather would do whatever it took to win, but it was passed a point where you could keep defending her cause.
"ooh, that's cold, brah" duncan winces.
heather scoffs out a laugh. "oh, like you're such a team player. all you do is go around scaring the crap out of everyone"
"at least i'm straight with people!"
"whatever. i have invincibility. no one can touch me" she turns away.
"you really are mean!" lindsay frowns. "and all that bad stuff people say about you is true! like, how you're a two-faced, backstabbing, lying, little *insert skew of curses*"
everyone stares at lindsay, baffled.
heather looked highly disturbed.
"i always told them they were wrong. i stood up for you because i thought we were BFF's, but they're right! you really are a two-faced, backstabbing, lying, little *insert skew of curses*. ! and guess what? i don't want to be BFF's anymore! i'd rather spend the day staring at owen's butt than shopping with you. and, P.S, your shoes are tacky!"
heather gasped in horror.
everyone laughed.
"yeah! you tell her" gwen smirks.
"go jump in the piranha pool!" heather sneers. "come on, [name]"
you scoff out a laugh.
"no, heather. you're done. i stuck by you because i want to win more than any of you could know, and you are a good player. but you've gone too far - winning doesn't have to include a loss of basic morals! lindsay has been nothing but forgiving and kind to you and even now as she leads you to another victory you leave her in the dust. i understand using tactics to win, but this has gone too far, heather. too. far"
heather stares at you with wide eyes, unsure why she feels her heart squeezing so horribly in her chest.
never before has she felt hurt when someone has called her names or told her she's a horrible person. she knows she is, and she embraces it. so why did hearing you call her out like that hurt so damn bad?
heather just looks down before spinning on her heel.
you stare after her for a moment before tearing your gaze away, yelping slightly as you're engulfed in hugs by the others.
saying goodbye to lindsay that night was hard. it reminded you of when noah and cody got voted off. your three closest friends all now gone.
you're officially on your own.
