[ CHAPTER VIII ]
Next morning Mayurakshi went to meet Nandini but she wasn't there. She frowned looking around the small room. Nandini is usually obedient and most of the time stays in her room.
"Where she can go early in the morning?" She thought. She walked out of the room and asked the maids around, "have you seen the princess?"
"No your highness" the maids replied.
Mayurakshi couldn't think of anything. She thought for a while before shaking her head, "whatever it is. I have to meet the Emperor first" she walked towards the direction of the Emperor's palace.
In the Emperor's palace, Nandini was feeding her husband breakfast. She was sitting on his lap and teased him while feeding.
"Husband what do you want to eat for lunch? I will cook for you" she got up from his lap and asked.
"What about eating you Nhu? I find you more delicious than food"
She frowned slapping his arm, "why are you teasing me early in the morning?'
Manik hold her hand intending to pull her on his lap but Ishank showed up. Both of them looked at him.
Ishank was started at first but quickly composed himself. He has already seen Nandini being intimate. And his master doesn't seem to mind it either. As a loyal servent he would serve his masters without interfering in their matter. Even though he couldn't understand what's happening but he was glad that his master's attitude has become normal like before.
"Master, her highness is requesting for an audience" he informed.
Nandini turned to look at her husband, Manik also glanced at his wife. She nodded slightly indicating to let her in. Nandini moved a little standing at side. Ishank left while Mayurakshi walked in but stopped at once when she saw Nandini. What she is doing here? Mayurakshi couldn't help but thought. A look of surprise crossed her face.
"Why are you here?" She asked.
"I called her" Manik replied.
Mayurakshi's attention went towards him, "your majesty?" Didn't he rejected at first?
"Isn't it sister-in-law who wanted to take care of me? I have thought over it- it will be a kind of disrespectful to refuse such kind intention" Manik replied with his cold tone.
Nandini at side glanced at him before lowering her head. This man could actually act so flawlessly. Has he ever cared about manners?
"Ah! In that case, I am glad that your majesty has accepted. Nandini of course is smart- she will definitely take care of your majesty well" Mayurakshi smiled then glanced at Nandini, "since his majesty has agreed, you shouldn't let down his expectations. He is your elder, be obedient and respectful" she lectured.
Nandini just nodded silently. Mayurakshi inwardly was quite satisfied. Though she didn't expect that Manik would really agreed to the arrangements but she was glad.
"Why sister-in-law wanted to see me?" His cold voice broken her trance.
Mayurakshi almost forgot about her real intention. "Well-your majesty I wanted to know if the Queen Dowager really returning back?"
"Sister-in-law wanted to inquire about it?"
"I really don't mean other meanings your majesty. I just wanted to prepare to welcome her well. So it would help me if I knew when she is returning back" Mayurakshi smiled.
"It's still uncertain but rest assured she will be back soon"
"Well then thank you your majesty. I will leave first" Mayurakshi nodded then glanced at Nandini again, "serve his majesty well" after saying so she left quickly.
Nandini looked at her back. If she didn't know her well she would have taken Mayurakshi's intention were humble. But that two faced woman is cunning as fox and greedy as wolf. Manik got up and hugged her from behind.
"What happened?" He asked.
"She is really desperate to find a suitor"
"Are you worried Nhu?"
"I just couldn't hold back my disgust" Nandini rolled her eyes.
"You don't have to pay attention to her" he turned her around, "looks like there will be competitors in the future. You have to work hard" he teased her.
"Your majesty are you challenging me?" She threw an ugly smile. A smile that is predictable for the upcoming danger. And he was quite familiar with it.
"I wouldn't dare" he reiterated quickly, "I just think you will be busy and wouldn't pay attention to me. If you like I will clean the way for you. How about let me handle it so that it will save more time and wouldn't tired you at all? Beneficial from each side"
"Your majesty is so thoughtful that it makes me weep" Nandini rolled her eyes again, "you don't have to interfere in women's fight. I know how to crush them all at once" she crossed her arms over her chest slightly glaring at him.
"I just want to save time so that I can have you all to myself without anyone interrupting us" he pulled her closer.
Nandini smiled, "your majesty you have to go now. The court is waiting for your arrival"
"They can wait. Let me kiss you first" he leaned down but she stopped him.
"You can't be late your majesty. You are the monarch" she tried to push him away but he didn't let her.
He picked her up and brought her to bed before pressing her down. "Why are you always do tempting?" He kissed her neck going to her shoulder. He pinned her hands intertwined it. "Didn't you heard what your mother-in-law said before leaving?" He emphasized Mayurakshi's words.
Nandini sighed. This man is really hard to handle. But could she deny his love? Absolutely not. She enjoyed his affection, his care and all shades of love he desires to shower on her.
He was busy kissing her changing position. Nandini patted his back lightly, "husband, I am not going anywhere. Why don't you finish the court matter first then continue?"
He stopped kissing her neck and looked up, "is this an invitation?"
"Your majesty wanted to take it this way?" She asked.
"I will take everything you want to give"
Nandini tilted her head whispering in his ear, "I will be waiting for husband's return then"
Manik gulped down hardly. That sweet whisper almost had him lose all his control and the only thing he wanted to do was tear her cloths and have his way with her.
"Nhu, do you know the consequences of provoking me like this?" His voice was low and dengerous.
"Is your majesty tempted?" She looked at him seductively.
Manik had the hard time to control himself. He got up and fixed his cloths, "I will punish you when I return back" then he turned around leaving the room.
Nandini chuckled sitting up. After dressing up properly she walked out of the Emperor's palace to take some fresh air. A maid showed up behind her. Sensing a presence behind her Nandini turned around to look at the maid.
"Princess, his highness the prince asked you to go to the garden" the maid informed. Nandini frowned. That brat again? Ordering me around like I was his gifted maid. She looked around. In the garden near the corridor she could see two people with maids enjoying the tea time. Looking at them her face twisted instantly. Now I have to deal with them? Reluctantly she went with the maid.
In the garden Chaitrangi was feeding Amey cake. They looked like a newly married couple in love. Seeing Nandini walking over Chaitrangi smiled inwardly. She quickly poured a hot cup of tea.
"Ah! Princess, you are here" Chaitrangi picked the tea cup and rushed to her, "His highness today feeling better so he come out to enjoy the view. Since you are here please serve him tea"
Nandini looked at her then to Amey who behaved like he didn't even saw her. "I was called here to serve tea?" There are maids to perform such thing. Please don't compare yourself with me"
Did she just called me maid? Chaitrangi gritted her teeth. But she didn't show her anger yet put on a mask of innocence, "what princess want to say? You are his wife, of course it's your duty to serve him. Did I say anything wrong?"
This is the worst regret of my rebirth. Nandini wanted to yell. Though she was thankful for the second chance but she couldn't also shook off the disgust of being reborn as Amey's wife.
"Why are you causing such trouble?" Amey asked, "just serve the tea, is it that hard?" He looked annoyed.
Chaitrangi took the chance to confront, "your highness please don't get angry. Princess didn't meant any-" she moved a little but her legs twisted and the hot tea spoiled on Nandini's hand.
Nandini hissed when the tea burnt her skin. Her skin was sensitive which immediately caused reaction turning her hand red. She hold her scalded hand in panic.
Amey got up rushing towards Chaitrangi who fell on the ground, "are you okay?"
Chaitrangi looked apologetic, "I'm fine but princess is hurt"
Amey didn't glance at Nandini but focused on her, "don't worry about her" he picked her up and walked away. Chaitrangi threw a provocative look towards Nandini.
Relying on power? Nandini glared at her. I will show you what real power looks like. She was really angry this time.
