Because It's You

Chapter 8

Sarah71225

The air in the room, already thick with the scent of roses and anticipation, seemed to solidify at Bright's words. If that's what you think it is, then that's exactly what it is.

Win's ears, already pink, turned a deep, burning crimson. A wave of dizziness washed over him, not from the wine Bright had just poured into his glass, but from the sheer, terrifying vertigo of the precipice they were standing on. He managed a wobbly nod, letting Bright gently guide him into his chair before Bright took his own seat across the table.

For a while, they ate. They talked. It was a nervous, fragile dance around the elephant in the room. They spoke about the audience's reaction to the series, laughing at memes and reciting favorite fan comments. They talked about Win's university projects and Bright's upcoming auditions. The conversation was a life raft, and they clung to it, both acutely aware of the deep, uncharted waters beneath them.

But with every stolen glance, every shy smile Win offered over the rim of his wine glass, Bright felt his resolve harden. He had set the stage. He had brought him here. He could not let the night end without speaking the truth that had been burning a hole in his heart for months.

He set his fork down, the clink against the plate sounding unnaturally loud in the quiet room. He took a slow breath, then reached across the table, covering Win's hand with his own. Win's nervous chatter cut off abruptly, his eyes snapping up to meet Bright's. The playful light was gone from Bright's gaze, replaced by a profound, unwavering seriousness.

"Win," he began, his voice low and earnest, devoid of its usual teasing warmth. "All of this... the candles, the food... it wasn't just to celebrate the series."

Win's breath hitched. He didn't pull his hand away. He just waited, his eyes wide and vulnerable.

"I need you to know something," Bright continued, his thumb stroking gentle circles over Win's knuckles. "When I first heard I'd be paired with you... I had it all wrong. I thought I knew who you were. A wealthy heir. Someone who saw this as a game. I told myself I'd keep my distance. Be professional. Only interact on set."

A faint, self-deprecating smile touched his lips. "And then you smiled at me. That very first day. And my entire stupid plan... it just shattered. I'd never seen a smile so beautiful, so genuine. It stuck with me. I knew right then you weren't anything like I'd imagined."

Win was utterly still, listening, his earlier embarrassment replaced by rapt attention.

"Getting to know you," Bright's voice grew thicker with emotion, "was the greatest privilege of my life. You're kind, and hardworking, and you see the good in everyone. You're not arrogant at all. You're... you're everything. You changed my entire perspective on... everything."

He paused, gathering his courage, his grip on Win's hand tightening just slightly. "These past months, living with you, working with you... it's been the happiest time of my life. And this feeling I have... it's not just brotherly love, Win. It's so much more than that."

He took a deep, shaky breath, his eyes glistening in the candlelight as he laid his heart completely bare.

"I'm in love with you. I am so deeply, completely in love with you. Not with Tine, not with Sarawat. With you. Win Metawin."

The confession hung between them, raw and powerful. Bright didn't look away, allowing Win to see the absolute truth and vulnerability in his eyes.

"This..." he gestured around the room, "...this is me asking you. Not as a joke, not as part of a script. I'm asking you for real. Would you... would you be my boyfriend?"

The silence that followed was deafening. The only sound was the faint sputter of a candle and the frantic beating of two hearts. Bright had laid down all his cards. The protective older brother was gone. The jealous co-star was gone. All that remained was a man, terrified and hopeful, waiting for an answer that would define his entire world.
